Situated in two districts – Mysore and Kodagu, Nagarhole gets its name from Nagara meaning Cobra and Hole meaning River. Monsoon at Nagarhole is something that is as wild as the animals present in it. Showers hit the national park right after summer and are fearfully unpredictable. With an average rainfall of about 1,500 mm, the months of June to September aren't generally suitable for planning a holiday at Nagarhole.

Winter is pleasant and forms the ideal time to visit the national park. The nights are cosy and comfortable, the days- warm and snuggly. Airports at Bengaluru, Mysore and Calicut serve to be the airbases in somewhat proximity to Nagarhole, with Mysore Airport at a distance of 98 km from the park. Being at a distance of 90 km, cars and buses may be hired by those willing to commute to Nagarhole. The railway station at Mahe is one located close by, with a lesser number of trains.
Nagarhole National Park is excellently connected by the roadways.
