Nagarhole

A splendid rendezvous of wilderness with serenity, Nagarhole National Park is a magnificent cluster of untouched natural elements in their best form.

The gurgling roar of the Bengal Tiger, an elephant enjoying amidst the lush forest, or the Ghost of Kabini (black panther) eerily eyeing you from a distance not so far away are sights common to Nagarhole. Sharing boundaries with Bandipur Tiger Reserve and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, it is separated from the two by the majestic Kabini Reservoir, which in itself is a sight to behold. It houses the King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, Russel's Viper, tortoises, and even monitor lizards. Cloaked with a quilt of green and peace, Nagarhole welcomes the seekers of solitude with open arms and a warm heart.

Must Visit

Hop onto the back of an elephant to spot rare birds and take the boat safari to go deeper into the parts of the jungle that may not be covered in a jeep safari, to explore the Kabini River. Countless birds, marsh crocodiles resting on the shore, and playful otters make up the scenery. Visit also the gurgling Iruppu Falls and Kerala's Wayanad Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary.

Best time to visit

The rocky terrain results in the wheels of the safari jeep bouncing and rolling as the animals peek and pop amidst the leaves, Nagarhole is full of surprises. Winter is the best time to visit since the safari and other activities can be enjoyed to their fullest, with a comfortable ambience to keep you hyped up for more. The flora of the park comes out fresh and welcoming for the visitors of Nagarhole during this time.

Trivia

Known to be the erstwhile hunting ground for the rulers of the Wodeyar dynasty, it derives its name from words in Kannada that mean snake and stream due to its many serpentine streams.

Interest

Nagarhole National Park is special for its thriving biodiversity, offering sightings of Bengal tigers, Asiatic elephants, leopards, and diverse bird species. The park’s mix of dense forests, streams, and open meadows creates an ideal setting for wildlife safaris.
