Tiger Caves

Mahabalipuram, Pattipulam, Tamil Nadu 603104

This cave temple looks more like a monument carved out of a boulder most delicately. The temple derives its name from eleven tiger-esque faces etched out on the façade that leads to a receptacle. The mighty tiger carvings exude ferocity and virility. The elephant heads on the left of the cave provide quite the contrast with their faceless tranquillity. An inscription on this temple led to the discovery of the Subramanya Temple in 2005.
